Dogs have two cones (the photoreceptors that allow us to see color) rather than three like humans. The result is that what we humans see as reds and greens are invisible to dogs. Their two cone structure allows them to distinguish blues and yellows only. So next time you’re about to grab that cute red ball for your dog, know that he is going to see something completely different!
